Spike's Blog

I thought it was about time I had a go at this blogging malarkey since we got Lola's thoughts on it all a few weeks ago. So I'm going to tell you all about what life is like when, at aged 11.5, your owner suddenly decides he's going to turn your house into a doggy hotel.

Now put yourself in my paws. When I first arrived on the scene 11 years ago I had them all to myself. I was the baby, the favourite and nobody got in my way. I thought it was bad enough when the first baby came along, then number 2 and number 3 turned up too. Ok, I thought to myself, they're messy eaters, I get lots of food, I can cope with this. And then it all went terribly wrong.

Now don't get me wrong I like Lola. She's brown like me which means we can get muddy without anyone noticing and she's really naughty which means she'll get the food off the worktop and I can eat it too without getting told off. But she's bouncy. Far too bouncy. I don't know how she does it. After we've been on a long walk with whichever dog we are being walked with all I want to do it curl up on my bed and sleep for the rest of the day. Not Lola. Oh no. She lies down for half an hour then she's up again. Bouncing in everyone's faces, knocking things over and chasing my tail. Can't she see I'm an old man and I just want sleep?

Then there's this other matter of all these different dogs coming to stay. Now don't get me wrong. I love a bit of company and I've made some good friends over the last few months but they keep pinching my spot on the sofa. I've worked hard for that spot over the years and now I have to share it! And when the kids drop food on the floor I have to make sure I'm super quick at getting to it in case one of those young upstarts get there first.

These days though I've worked out how to get my quiet life. I'll play for as long as want and when I've had enough I take myself off for a lovely long nap!
